Ulldeter

Ulldeter is a glacial cirque with steep cliffs and a bowl-shaped depression carved into the mountainside by ancient ice movements. The natural amphitheater features multiple hiking trails that connect to the wider network of paths throughout the Pyrenees.

The cirque formed during the last ice age when massive ice sheets shaped the Pyrenees through continuous erosion and movement. The wide floor and steep walls are the result of this prolonged glacial activity.

Shepherds in the region have long used the natural rock walls as shelter for their herds during summer grazing in the mountains. This traditional practice has shaped how people relate to the place across generations.

Access to the cirque comes through well-marked hiking trails from Setcases. Visitors should prepare for changeable mountain weather and bring proper footwear along with layered clothing.

A seasonal mountain lake forms in the depression after snowmelt, serving as a natural water reservoir for the area. This temporary pool offers hikers a scenic rest spot and provides habitat for alpine plants and wildlife.
