Tour Gambetta, Residential high-rise in Courbevoie, France
Tour Gambetta is a 104-meter-high residential building with 36 floors and 304 apartments in the La Défense district. The structure features a vertical core with tapering facades that make the building look different from various vantage points.
Architect Daniel Badani designed the building in 1975 as La Défense was rapidly growing into a new business hub. The tower was part of this major transformation that aimed to combine offices and homes in a fresh urban model.
The building shows how France wanted to mix housing and business districts together in the 1970s. Families and individuals live here in the middle of La Défense, giving the area a more human side.
The building sits right next to La Défense Grande Arche metro station and is easy to reach by public transit. The residential complex has multiple elevators and is walkable through the district if you use the various passages and levels of La Défense.
The building has a special form that looks like a twisted or spiraling column when you view it from outside. This optical effect comes from the angled balconies and window fronts that rotate around the central core.
