Villeneuve de Grenoble, Residential district in southern Grenoble, France
Villeneuve de Grenoble is a residential district south of the city center with multiple housing complexes surrounding Grand'Place, including the Arlequin building and Balladins residential area. These areas are linked by walkways and parks to form a cohesive living environment.
The district was built between 1970 and 1983 as the largest urban development project in the Grenoble metropolitan area. This large-scale planning effort fundamentally changed how the southern part of the city developed.
The neighborhood contains schools, health facilities, and public art that show how residents have shaped their living spaces over time.
The district connects to central Grenoble via tram Line A, which runs regularly throughout the day. The neighborhood has wide pedestrian paths and squares that make walking and exploring straightforward.
The Popular Workshop of Urbanism, started in 2012, gives residents a direct say in planning decisions that affect their neighborhood. This form of community involvement continues to shape how the district develops.
