Town hall of Grenoble, Modernist town hall in Grenoble, France
The town hall is a modern municipal building with 15 stories, designed by Maurice Novarina's architectural firm. The structure combines a broad base housing public services with a central glass tower.
The town hall was built in 1967, replacing the Hôtel de Lesdiguières as part of infrastructure development for the 1968 Winter Olympic Games in Grenoble. This new building equipped municipal administration for the modern demands of the era.
The building displays artworks throughout its ceremonial spaces, including bronze sculptures and woven tapestries. These pieces create a dignified setting within the daily operations of municipal administration.
The building is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 17:50 and is located on Boulevard Jean-Pain. Visitors should expect limited access outside these hours and plan accordingly for administrative services.
The structure features an innovative design with a prestressed concrete platform spanning 23 meters, supported by two massive pillars. This engineering solution creates an open plaza beneath the building that welcomes visitors to linger.
