The museum displays 1.5 million specimens across botany, zoology, geology, and ethnology collections within a 2,800 square meter exhibition space.

The museum originated in 1772 when Grenoble citizens acquired Bishop Jean de Caulet's library, establishing a natural history cabinet that became municipal in 1814.

The museum's six thematic rooms present natural heritage from the Alps region and incorporate scientific discoveries through permanent and temporary exhibitions.

The museum opens Tuesday through Friday from 9:15 to 12:15 and 13:15 to 18:00, with weekend hours from 14:00 to 18:00, offering free admission to permanent exhibitions.

The museum building features a decorated colonnade facing the park and maintains its original 1855 grand hall with preserved wood paneling.
