Baou des Blancs, Mountain summit near Vence, France.
Located in the Castellane Pre-Alps, the Baou des Blancs reaches an elevation of 673 meters, offering views over the Mediterranean coastline and surrounding peaks.
Between 1350 BCE and 750 BCE, the summit served as an oppidum and later transformed into Castrum Saint Laurent with fortified walls during medieval times.
The site holds archaeological evidence of Neolithic human settlements and was likely the capital of the Ligurian Nerusii people before Vintium's establishment.
The western slope provides the easiest access route to the summit, with a parking area available at the trailhead near Col de Vence.
The fortress ruins include semicircular towers from its defensive past, when it served as a Protestant stronghold during the French Wars of Religion.
