Le Cavalier gaulois, Limestone sculpture at Pont d'Iéna, Paris, France
The Gaulish Horseman depicts a warrior mounted on a horse, crafted in limestone and positioned on the bridge connecting Champs de Mars to Trocadéro Gardens.
Antoine-Augustin Préault completed this monumental sculpture in 1853 during a period of renewed interest in France's ancient Gallic heritage and cultural identity.
The sculpture represents one of four equestrian statues on Pont d'Iéna, each depicting warriors from different civilizations: Gallic, Roman, Greek, and Arab.
Visitors can reach the sculpture by taking the Metro to Trocadéro station or Bir-Hakeim station and walking toward the Seine River crossing.
The limestone material selection enables the sculpture to maintain its original appearance despite exposure to weather conditions and urban environment for over 160 years.
