Le Cavalier grec, Limestone sculpture at Pont d'Iéna, France
The Greek Horseman stands on one of the pillars of Pont d'Iéna bridge, representing a warrior figure mounted on a horse in neoclassical style.
François Théodore Devaulx created this limestone sculpture in 1853 during a period when Paris underwent substantial urban development under Napoleon III's direction.
The sculpture forms part of a series along the bridge that includes Roman and Gallic warriors, reflecting France's interest in classical antiquity.
Located in the 16th arrondissement near the Eiffel Tower, visitors can observe the sculpture while crossing the bridge between Trocadéro and Champ de Mars.
The statue has maintained its original position since installation, surviving multiple bridge renovations including the significant widening project of the 1930s.
