Château Haussmann

Château Haussmann is a residential castle in Cestas featuring a rectangular layout beneath a mansard roof with semi-hexagonal projections on opposing sides. The structure contains a ground floor and two upper levels that create a balanced composition.

Baron Haussmann commissioned architect Victor Baltard in 1862 to design a new family residence in Cestas following the death of his wife's parents. The building gained monument protection status across different periods as authorities recognized its architectural value.

The interior features stained glass, decorative stucco, and hand-painted door panels that reflect the tastes of 19th-century French society. These ornaments show how the wealthy residents expressed their status through refined details.

The castle's facades and roofs received monument protection in 1975, with additional protections added later for outbuildings and interior spaces. Visitors should respect the private status of the property and follow any access guidelines posted at the site.

A polygonal water tower rises among the southern outbuildings, revealing the infrastructure needed to support the estate. Nearby stables and specialized wine storage facilities show how the property was designed for self-sufficiency.
