Puy de la Croix Morand

Puy de la Croix Morand is a volcanic summit in Chambon-sur-Lac that rises to approximately 1520 meters and features compact basalt with a vesicular structure. The northwestern slope displays these volcanic rock formations prominently.

This mountain formed through volcanic activity in an area with a complex geological past. The rock composition points to different phases of volcanic formation.

The eastern slope displays an unusual white trachyte composition with visible feldspar crystals. This feldspar-rich rock surface stands out distinctly from the dark basalt found on the other slopes.
