Téléphérique du puy de Sancy, Aerial tramway in Mont-Dore, France

The Téléphérique du puy de Sancy is a pair of parallel aerial tramways running from Mont-Dore to the Pic du Sancy at 1780 metres. The first, built in 1936 and inaugurated on 17 January 1937, has one support pylon; the second, from 1961, has none. The 1961 line is 1,111 metres long and uses two cabins built in 1991. Its red and glass cabin carries a yellow-and-blue mountain logo and the text "1780 m" and "1325 m".

Two parallel cable cars were built in 1936/1937 and 1961, linking Mont-Dore to the Pic du Sancy at 1780 m. The first had one support pylon; the second has none and runs 1,111 metres. On 25 December 1965 a power failure stopped it in strong wind, a cabin struck a rock and seven passengers fell to their deaths.

The cable car appears on a 0.20-franc postage stamp issued on 3 July 1961, showing the Mont-Dore massif with its lift. The cabins carry a yellow-and-blue mountain logo and the words "LE MONT-DORE" and "1780 m". The line is listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage.

The passenger cabins are accessible and operate daily, with more frequent departures during peak times. Visitors should bring warm clothing, as temperatures are significantly cooler at the higher elevation.

Upon arrival at the top, a staircase leads to a viewing point with an orientation table. From there, visitors can spot and identify numerous peaks and landmarks across the Massif Central.
