Téléphérique du puy de Sancy

The aerial tramway to Puy de Sancy is a mountain cable car that carries passengers to 1790 meters elevation, providing direct access to the highest volcanic peak in central France at 1886 meters. The route covers most of the height difference quickly, with passenger cabins departing regularly throughout the day.

The cable car began operations in 1962 and created a direct link to the Puy de Sancy summit in the Massif Central range. This infrastructure fundamentally changed how visitors could access the mountain.

The facility is registered in the French cultural heritage inventory and connects the mountain landscape with modern transportation. Visitors use this place to reach the highest peak in the region quickly, without needing to walk long trails.

The passenger cabins are accessible and operate daily, with more frequent departures during peak times. Visitors should bring warm clothing, as temperatures are significantly cooler at the higher elevation.

Upon arrival at the top, a staircase leads to a viewing point with an orientation table. From there, visitors can spot and identify numerous peaks and landmarks across the Massif Central.
