Vallée de Chaudefour, Nature reserve in Chambon-sur-Lac, France.
The valley spreads across 820 hectares of mountainous terrain in the Sancy massif, featuring glacial landscapes with elevations between 1137 and 1854 meters.
The natural reserve was established by decree on May 14, 1991, under joint management of the Regional Natural Park of Auvergne Volcanoes and National Forest Office.
The reserve counts 1600 plant species and 976 animal species, including protected specimens like the Auvergne Jasione and the Apollo butterfly.
The Reserve House opens from May to September, offering exhibitions about local flora and fauna, with guided nature walks available during summer months.
Natural springs emerge from fissured zones in the cirque, producing both hot and cold mineral waters rich in sodium, carbonate, and iron compounds.
