Puy de Cacadogne

Puy de Cacadogne is a volcanic peak in the Massif Central rising to about 1784 meters with steep slopes formed by volcanic rock. The rocky terrain creates sharp ridges and distinctive formations that define the summit's appearance.

This peak formed through volcanic eruptions that occurred millions of years ago in the Massif Central. The geological processes created the distinctive rock structures visible throughout the terrain today.

The slopes here have long served as summer pasture for sheep herds, a tradition that shaped the land for centuries. This pastoral heritage remains visible in how the terrain is managed and used by local communities today.

The hike to the summit takes several hours with significant elevation gain along well-marked trails starting from Chaudefour Valley. The rocky terrain is demanding, so proper hiking gear and good fitness are necessary for the journey.

From the summit, views reach across the Puys chain, the Cantal mountains, and the Forez range in all directions. This panorama reveals the region's entire volcanic landscape at once.
