Herbouilly, Mountain summit in Vercors Massif, France
Herbouilly is a mountain summit in the Vercors Massif reaching 1459 meters between the Isère and Drôme departments in the northern part of the range. The broad plateau above features a system of cross-country ski trails that connect different sections of the high ground.
The area gained importance during World War II when the nearby village of Valchevrière became a key location for French Resistance operations in the region. The mountain terrain served as a natural setting for these activities during that period.
The mountain sits within a region strongly connected to winter sports and mountain activities for generations. Visitors can observe how the high plateau continues to shape the leisure habits and routines of people who come here.
Two main routes lead to the summit area from different valleys, one starting from the east and one from the west, both offering access to the high plateau. The terrain on top is relatively flat and walkable, with various pathways marked for different types of visitors and their pace.
The plateau includes specialized Nordic sledges designed for visitors with reduced mobility, allowing high-altitude winter activities to reach a broader audience. This facility reflects a practical commitment to including different visitors in mountain recreation.
