Grande Sœur Agathe

Grande Sœur Agathe is a summit in the Vercors massif that rises to 2193 meters and offers expansive views of eastern rock walls and surrounding mountain ranges. The landscape features steep rocky slopes and open high-altitude terrain with sparse vegetation.

The summit was shaped through geological processes that formed the Vercors massif over millions of years and created its distinctive structure. The area was developed as a hiking destination in the 20th century to support tourism growth in Villard-de-Lans.

The routes to this summit pass through habitats where alpine ibexes and yellow-billed choughs live and can often be spotted. These encounters with local wildlife shape the experience of walking through this mountain area.

The ascent starts at Villard-de-Lans ski station, where the Côte 2000 cable car can assist with the initial climb. The route follows mountain trails and requires steady endurance plus suitable gear for alpine conditions.

The Col des Deux Sœurs separates this summit from neighboring Petite Sœur Sophie and forms a distinctive geological formation. This double-peak configuration creates an unusual landscape feature that often surprises hikers.
