Rocher des Pradoux, Mountain summit in Ardèche, France
Rocher des Pradoux is a rocky summit in the Monts du Vivarais region with steep rock formations and surrounding forest trails. The peak stands at 1440 meters elevation and offers pathways with views of the surrounding terrain.
The summit formed through geological processes when an underground magma chamber emptied and collapsed. This collapse shaped the rocky structure visible at the site today.
Local hiking groups maintain several marked paths around the summit, organizing regular expeditions to promote the natural heritage of Ardèche.
The ascent takes about 30 minutes of climbing with a vertical gain of 45 meters starting from the parking area near Des Estables village. Sturdy footwear and good footing are needed for the steeper sections along the way.
The summit displays a tooth-like profile that rises about 250 meters above the surrounding valley. Many rock surfaces are covered in lichens and moss, giving the site a greenish-tinted appearance.
