The Émetteur du pic du Midi de Bigorre is a television transmission facility located on a mountain peak in the Pyrenees. The site stands at nearly 2900 meters elevation and contains a transmission tower exceeding 100 meters in height alongside technical buildings.
The facility started radio broadcasting in 1927 using two 25-meter towers. It expanded its capabilities to include television transmission in 1957.
The transmitter broadcasts multiple French national television channels and radio stations, serving one-seventh of France's southwestern territory.
The facility is reachable by cable car from the La Mongie ski resort. The site makes for a worthwhile day trip to view transmission operations at high elevation.
The facility operates both modern digital television systems and older analog equipment to provide reliable backup coverage for the surrounding region. This dual setup demonstrates how critical this location is for regional broadcasting.
