Montagne de Lachat, Alpine summit in Dingy-Saint-Clair, France.

Montagne de Lachat is an alpine peak standing at about 2000 meters with sweeping views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding mountain ranges. The summit is reached via marked hiking trails that start from the villages and valleys below.

The mountain served as a key navigation landmark for travelers crossing the French Alps over many centuries. Its location within the Bornes Massif made it a reliable reference point for those moving through the high country.

Herding and dairy farming have shaped how people use the lower slopes, with milk production remaining central to the rural economy. The pastures you see while climbing reflect generations of pastoral tradition.

The hike works best from late spring through early autumn when snow has melted and the trails are easily walkable. Bring plenty of water and weather-resistant clothing, as mountain conditions can change quickly at elevation.

The limestone plateau near the summit displays interesting geological structures that hikers can observe. The rocky terrain offers good chances to spot chamois, wild goats that leap across the steep slopes.
