Mont Grelle, Mountain summit in Savoie, France
Mont Grelle is a mountain peak in the Chaîne de l'Épine range reaching around 1,400 meters with prominent limestone formations. The rock displays characteristic features of the Jura Mountains and shapes the appearance of the summit distinctly.
The mountain formed during the Alpine mountain-building period millions of years ago through powerful crustal movements. These tectonic processes created the entire Jura range structure and continue to shape the region's appearance today.
Local hikers regularly use the marked paths, keeping alive a tradition of mountaineering that has deep roots in the Savoie region. These routes connect small communities in the valleys and represent how people here have always moved through their landscape.
The best access to the summit starts from the village of Attignat-Oncin with the trailhead at Mollard du Pin. The paths are clearly marked and help with navigation on the way up to the top.
From the summit you can see the glimmering Lake Aiguebelette in the valleys below. The mountain also forms the highest point of the Épine anticline structure.
