Pointe de la Gorgeat, Mountain summit in Chartreuse range, Savoie, France
Pointe de la Gorgeat is a summit in the Chartreuse mountain range in Savoie, standing at around 1,486 meters. The peak rises from limestone rock and offers hikers a rocky ascent with wide views across the surrounding mountains.
The summit formed during the Alpine mountain-building period millions of years ago. Since then, water and ice have shaped the limestone formation into the landscape seen today.
Local hiking communities maintain the mountain trails, preserving access routes that connect various points across the Chartreuse Natural Regional Park.
The ascent is reached via marked hiking trails that take between four and six hours depending on the route chosen. It is wise to start early in the morning and wear sturdy footwear and weather protection, as conditions at the top can change quickly.
On clear days, visitors can see Mont Blanc from the summit, the highest peak in the Alps located over 70 kilometers away. This distant view connects two important points of the Savoyard mountain landscape.
