Église Saint-Seurin de Plassac

Église Saint-Seurin de Plassac is a Roman Catholic church perched on a hillside overlooking the Gironde estuary, featuring architectural elements from multiple historical periods. The building displays both romanesque and later-period details accumulated through centuries of additions and modifications.

Archaeological investigations revealed that a Merovingian structure from the 7th century occupied this site, establishing an early religious presence. The current building was constructed over these foundations and underwent numerous modifications throughout subsequent centuries.

The church houses the statue of Notre-Dame de Montuzet and the relics of Saint Fructose, which draw pilgrims seeking spiritual connection. These objects anchor the community's religious life and traditions.

The church sits south of Blaye and is accessible via the main roads connecting the estuary communities, making it reachable by car. The hillside location means visitors should wear footwear with good grip for comfortable walking around the grounds.

Next to the building lies an ancient mosaic containing a burial chamber where archaeologists discovered the remains of a young woman. This discovery suggests the location held significance as a burial site long before the current structure was built.
