Franchissement Pleyel, Transportation bridge in Saint-Denis, France
Franchissement Pleyel is a bridge in Saint-Denis that connects two districts across a major railway yard using dedicated paths for pedestrians and vehicles. The structure includes planted areas, seating zones, and provides access to the RER D train line.
The project was selected through an international competition in 2016 with construction starting in 2018. Architect Marc Mimram's design aimed to reshape the urban landscape.
The structure links two neighborhoods and creates a shared public space with seating areas and planted zones where people gather and spend time. Visitors notice how the design encourages both transit and pause, letting travelers watch trains while resting.
The bridge accommodates pedestrians, cyclists, and buses with good connections to metro line 13 and RER D. Visitors can access the space anytime and will find plenty of room to walk and stay.
The structure crosses one of the three largest railway networks globally, surpassed only by Chicago and Tokyo in track density. This remarkable infrastructure shapes the character of the entire area.
