Central lawns of the Champ-de-Mars

Central lawns of the Champ-de-Mars, Public lawn in 7th arrondissement, Paris, France.

The central lawns of the Champ-de-Mars form a large green space running from the Eiffel Tower to the École Militaire in the heart of Paris. The area features wide pathways, scattered trees, and open stretches where the ground stays mostly flat across the entire expanse.

The land served as vegetable gardens until 1765 when the École Militaire established itself here and converted it into a military training ground. This military purpose shaped the character of the space and its development over following generations.

These lawns form an essential meeting point where Parisians gather for national celebrations, including the annual July 14th Bastille Day festivities.

The lawns are easy to cross thanks to multiple wide pathways that run in different directions across the space. Several metro stations nearby provide convenient access without much walking.

The location offers an unblocked view of the Eiffel Tower from multiple vantage points, making it a favorite spot for photography. Few visitors realize you can capture different angles of the tower depending on where you stand on the lawns.
