Dinamo Arena, Association football stadium in Tbilisi, Georgia
Dinamo Arena is a stadium on Akaki Tsereteli Avenue in Tbilisi, built in 1976 to designs by Archil and Gia Kurdiani with engineer Shalva Gazashvili. Its two tiers of blue-and-white seats are carried on a console system supported by 58 pylons, and a 30-metre cantilever roof covers the upper tier. A red running track borders the pitch, and the former swimming pool below the stands now houses the nightclub Bassiani.
The stadium opened in 1976 as Vladimir Lenin Dinamo Stadium and was renamed in 1995 to honor Boris Paichadze. This change reflected the nation's transition following the Soviet period.
The stadium carries the name of Boris Paichadze (1915–1990), the Georgian forward honoured when it was renamed in 1995. Its lower levels once held a swimming pool, and that former pool space now houses the nightclub Bassiani. Fans marked Dinamo Tbilisi's 1981 European Cup Winners' Cup win by filling the stands with lighted torches.
The stadium stands at Akaki Tsereteli Avenue 2 in Tbilisi. The second tier is sheltered by a 30-metre cantilever roof, so upper-tier seats stay dry in rain, while the lower tier and running track are open. Spectators reach the upper tier by 23 stairs from the evacuation terrace between the two tiers.
During a 1979 match against Liverpool FC, the stadium welcomed far more spectators than its official capacity allowed. This overcrowding made the event a memorable occasion in the venue's history.
