Funicular of Tbilisi, Mountain cable railway in Tbilisi, Georgia
The Funicular of Tbilisi stretches 501 meters upward, connecting the central district to Mtatsminda Plateau through three stations at different elevations.
Belgian engineer Alphonse Robbie initiated the construction in 1903, and the funicular opened in 1905, marking the beginning of Upper Tbilisi development.
Georgian architects Zakaria and Nadezhda Kurdians designed the current building complex in 1938, incorporating restaurants and event spaces into the structure.
The funicular operates daily from 09:00 to 23:30, carrying 60 passengers per carriage between stations with a travel duration of three minutes.
The system spans an elevation difference of 267 meters, offering transportation to the Mtatsminda Church and the Pantheon of Public Figures.
