Church of St. David, Tbilisi

The Saint David Orthodox Church stands on the slopes of Mtatsminda Mountain, featuring a cross-domed structure built primarily of brick with western and southern entrances.

The initial church construction dates back to the sixth century when religious figures from the Church of Antioch, including Father David, established the first structure at this location.

The surrounding Mtatsminda Pantheon, established in 1929, contains the graves of numerous Georgian writers, artists, and public figures, including Alexander Griboyedov and Nino Chavchavadze.

The church maintains regular worship services and provides religious items for the local Orthodox Christian community under the supervision of Archbishop Ilia II.

Father David carved a cave into the mountainside near the church, leading to the naming of the mountain as Mamadaviti before it became known as Mtatsminda.
