Tusheti Protected Landscape

The protected area covers 1,276 square kilometers of mountainous terrain with diverse ecosystems including pine forests, alpine meadows, and glacial lakes.

The region dates back to the late Bronze Age and contains slate stone towers with cast iron animal figures from the 4th and 5th centuries.

The protected area sustains fifty nomadic communities who maintain traditional practices of sheep breeding, wool processing, and regional food preparation.

The Omalo-Alvani highway provides access to the park between May and September, while helicopter transport becomes necessary during winter months.

Seven mammals, ten birds, and one fish species listed on the Georgia Red List inhabit this national park, including the Anatolian leopard and lammergeyer.
