Zrkinyants St. Gevorg

Saint George's Church stands at the foot of Narikala fortress with traditional Armenian architecture, featuring stucco-coated brick walls and a cruciform structure.

The church dates back to 1251 when Prince Umek of Karin established it, though some historical records suggest its origins may extend to 631.

The interior contains religious artworks from the 18th and 20th centuries, including frescoes, a 19th-century iconostasis, and a 13th-century Arabic-inscribed khachkar.

The church underwent extensive renovations between 2012 and 2015, funded by philanthropists including Russian-Armenian businessman Ruben Vardanian, totaling 3.5 million dollars.

The tomb of Armenian poet Sayat-Nova rests within the church, which serves as the cathedral for the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
