Sisimiut Museum

Sisimiut Museum occupies several colonial buildings near the harbor and covers topics such as trade, shipping, and the region's industrial development. The collections include tools, religious artworks, and objects spanning different centuries of Arctic settlement.

Archaeological finds from early Saqqaq settlements provide evidence of habitation spanning thousands of years. These discoveries show how ways of life and society in this Arctic region evolved over time.

The collection shows how people lived and worked in western Greenland over centuries, with everyday objects and religious artworks on display. The exhibits help visitors understand the importance of trade and crafts in the local community.

The museum houses an original altarpiece from 1650 and an authentic kayak from the 18th century. A reconstructed peat house also deserves attention, showing how people actually lived in this region during the early 1900s.
