Rampin Rider, Marble equestrian statue in Athens, Greece
The Rampin Rider consists of a marble figure mounted on a horse, displaying detailed craftsmanship in both the rider and the mount.
Created around 550 BC in an Attic workshop, the sculpture was discovered in fragments near the Acropolis, with the head found in 1877 and torso in 1886.
The statue represents the importance of horsemanship in ancient Greek society, particularly among the elite class of Athens during the Archaic period.
The head of the Rampin Rider is housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris, while the torso remains in the Acropolis Museum in Athens.
This marble sculpture stands as the earliest known equestrian statue in art history, measuring 108 centimeters in total height.
