Strefi Hill, Urban natural park in Exarcheia, Athens, Greece.
Strefi Hill is an urban green space situated between Exarcheia and Neapoli districts in Athens, rising about 140 meters above the surrounding area. Stone pathways wind across the slopes past benches and native Mediterranean plants, with several routes leading to viewpoints overlooking the city center.
The hill was originally named Anchesmos and belonged to the Strefi family until 1914, when it passed to the Greek state and later to Athens Municipality. Limestone quarrying during the 19th century shaped its terrain, which prompted extensive reforestation efforts in the 1920s.
The amphitheater at the summit hosts summer performances and serves as a community gathering space. Basketball courts and recreational areas scattered across the slopes are where locals spend their leisure time.
The hill has multiple access points from Emmanouil Benaki Street, with paved paths that are easy to walk. Viewpoints are reachable from different levels of the slope, allowing you to explore at your own pace.
The scars from limestone quarrying remain visible in the landscape, telling the story of this place's industrial past. These marks have become part of the natural character visitors discover while exploring the paths.
