Leppävaara, Urban district in Espoo, Finland
Leppävaara is an urban district in Espoo located at the intersection of the Rantarata rail line and Ring Road I, serving as a major transportation hub for the Greater Helsinki area. The district contains the Sello cultural center with performance venue and library, along with several high-rise office buildings.
The area shows signs of human settlement since the Bronze Age, with burial sites in the sports park and the medieval village hill of Konungsböle. In the 20th century, it developed into a modern transportation and business center with the construction of the railway and later the ring road.
The Sello cultural center, featuring a performance hall and library, shapes how visitors spend their time here, whether attending shows or working in quiet spaces. This reflects how a growing neighborhood builds infrastructure to support community life and learning.
Trains reach Helsinki city center in about 16 minutes, and the new light rail line connects the area to Otaniemi and other districts. Parking and bicycle storage are available, and most destinations in the district are walkable.
Three prominent high-rise buildings define the district's skyline: Panorama Tower, Leppävaara Tower, and Sellonhuippu. These towers are visible from most parts of the district and serve as useful landmarks for visitors.
