Muurame, Administrative division in Central Finland, Finland
Muurame is an administrative division in Central Finland situated between Lake Päijänne and Lake Muuratjärvi. The area is shaped by water and forests that create a typical Finnish lakeland landscape.
The municipality was established in 1921 after separating from Korpilahti and traces its roots to four original farms documented in the 16th century. The area evolved from those early agricultural settlements into its current form.
The white church, designed by architect Alvar Aalto in 1929, underwent a complete restoration in 2016 to maintain its original architectural elements.
The administrative center is located roughly 13 kilometers from Jyväskylä, making it easily accessible for visitors from the larger region. The area offers access to lakes and natural spaces that work well for exploring during a visit.
The municipality name comes from the cloudberry, a berry found in northern regions, which appears on the official coat of arms. This fruit grows in the local landscape and reflects the natural character of the place.
