Joensuu Arena, indoor arena in Joensuu, Finland
Joensuu Arena is a large multi-purpose venue and Finland's biggest wooden structure of its kind, capable of hosting up to 7,000 visitors with a ceiling height of 24 meters (79 feet) and a playing area exceeding half a hectare. The flexible interior can be rearranged for sports competitions, concerts, exhibitions, markets, and community gatherings, with smaller rooms available for meetings and conferences.
The arena was developed as a key infrastructure project for Joensuu and has become one of the city's largest cultural and sports venues. Its design merges traditional wooden construction methods with modern capabilities to accommodate both national and international events.
The venue functions as a gathering space where the community hosts everything from local school competitions to international performances by well-known musicians. The wooden construction gives visitors a sense of connection to nature while enjoying modern facilities.
The venue is located in the Mehtimaki sports park and is easily accessible by car or public transport, about 2 kilometers from the train station. The building features wide entrances with automatic doors, elevators, wheelchair spaces, accessible restrooms, and ample parking, including spaces for visitors with mobility needs.
The building is one of Finland's largest wooden structures and was specifically engineered with moveable floors and interchangeable surfaces to support various sports and activities in ways many visitors do not expect. Inside you will also find a climbing wall and gym, adding layers of use beyond typical event hosting.
