Sirkkala Barracks, Historical military facility in I District, Turku, Finland
The Sirkkala Barracks complex contains multiple buildings with formal architectural designs, constructed during different periods of the 19th century.
Built in 1846, the barracks initially housed the Finnish Grenadier Battalion before transitioning to Russian military control in the 1860s.
The buildings represent the evolution of Finnish military architecture, with three notable architects contributing to its design: Gylich, Lohrmann, and Dalström.
The former military complex now serves educational purposes as part of the University of Turku, housing the Department of History.
The 1875 barracks building, designed by Dalström, stands as Finland's first purpose-built military accommodation structure.
