Kaieteur Falls, Waterfall in Potaro-Siparuni region, Guyana

The Kaieteur Falls plunges 741 feet from the Potaro River, creating a single vertical drop five times higher than Niagara Falls with 663 cubic meters per second.

British geologist Charles Barrington Brown first documented the falls in 1870 during his survey work in British Guiana, publishing detailed measurements the following year.

The name originates from Chief Kai of the Patamona people, who according to local tradition sacrificed himself by paddling over the falls to protect his community.

Visitors reach the falls through scheduled flights from Georgetown's airports, followed by a guided walking tour that includes multiple observation points around the site.

The waterfall flows within Kaieteur National Park, where golden frogs and Guiana dolphins inhabit the surrounding 627 square kilometers of protected rainforest.
