Zrinski Park, Renaissance park in Čakovec, Croatia.
Zrinski Park is a green space of about 13.5 hectares in central Čakovec with paved walking paths and geometric decorative elements. The park holds over 1500 trees of various species, including hornbeam and ash, along with the remains of the Old Town castle that once belonged to the Zrinski family.
The park developed from the city's 13th-century fortifications and surrounds the Old Town castle, which the Zrinski family occupied from the 16th to 18th centuries. This period shaped the development of Čakovec and left architectural marks that remain visible in the space today.
The space holds several monuments, including a bronze statue of Nikola Šubić Zrinski and a Baroque statue of Saint Jerome from the 18th century. These works reflect the importance of the Zrinski family to the region and religious traditions that remain visible to visitors today.
The park sits near the main square and is easy to reach from the train and bus stations. Visitors find paved paths throughout, making it simple to navigate the green space at a comfortable pace.
The space preserves remnants of a Renaissance defensive ditch system from earlier centuries. Beginning in the early 1900s, exotic tree species were introduced during landscaping work, creating an unusual blend of historical and botanical features that visitors encounter today.
