Čakovec Castle

Čakovec Castle is a fortified residence with red brick walls, stone elements, and several towers arranged around a central courtyard. The complex sits within a park and now houses a museum dedicated to regional history and artifacts.

The original fortress was built in the 13th century under Count Dimitrius Csáky. In the 16th century, the Zrinski family transformed it into a Renaissance structure.

The interior displays furniture, artwork, and personal objects that show how noble families lived across different periods. Visitors can observe the daily life and status of the Zrinski family through the arranged rooms and collections.

Access is through a gate leading to the paved courtyard, from where the various buildings can be reached. Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking on uneven ground.

A powerful earthquake in the 18th century destroyed much of the older structures and led to rebuilding in Baroque style. This event shaped the castle's appearance, which remains visible today.
