Bribir, Šibenik-Knin County

Bribir is a medieval settlement perched on a hilltop in Šibenik-Knin County, Croatia. The site features ancient stone structures and fortification walls that define its layout and remain visible across the terrain today.

The place was called Varvaria during Roman times and later became a political power center under the Šubić family rule in the 13th century. This transformation shows how the hilltop gained importance across different periods.

The settlement preserves remains of a Franciscan monastery and the Church of St. Mary, showing how faith and community life were woven together in the medieval period. These structures reveal the religious importance the place held for the people who lived here.

Visitors can reach the site through the nearby town of Skradin, which lies roughly 14 kilometers away and offers good transport connections. Sturdy footwear is recommended because the terrain is uneven and requires careful footing.

Archaeological digs have uncovered artifacts from many different periods, including finds from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, and Bronze Age. These discoveries reveal that the hilltop was continuously inhabited across thousands of years.
