Zaton

Zaton is a coastal settlement that stretches for several kilometers along the northern bay and includes three small beaches. The area is characterized by gardens and villas built closely together, creating a quiet residential feel.

Excavations at Velika Mrdakovica hill reveal that an ancient settlement called Arauzon existed here for over a thousand years. The remains show the site was continuously inhabited and economically active throughout classical and early medieval times.

The Zaton Pidočijada festival celebrates the mussel harvest with traditional food and brings the community together through local customs. This event shows how important the sea and its resources remain in daily life here.

The area is easily reached by road and offers many private accommodation options at various price levels. The best time for swimming and beach visits runs from May through October.

A rowing course built for the 1979 Mediterranean Games still operates as a major sports complex in the northwestern bay. This sports heritage makes the location interesting for visitors interested in water sports and competitive events.
