National and University Library in Zagreb

The national library occupies a modern cubical building with 1000 reading room seats and houses more than 3.6 million items in its collections.

The library traces its origins to 1607 and received legal deposit rights in 1816, marking a pivotal moment in its development as a national institution.

The library maintains special collections of manuscripts, old books, prints, maps, and music scores that document Croatia's intellectual and artistic achievements.

Students and researchers can access lending services, reference assistance, interlibrary loans, and IT facilities throughout the extensive opening hours.

Four Croatian architects designed the current building, which opened in 1995 during Croatia's independence celebrations.
