Croatian Railway Museum, Railway museum at Zagreb Glavni kolodvor, Croatia.
The Croatian Railway Museum in Zagreb houses steam locomotives, railway carriages, machines, and technical equipment used throughout the history of Croatia's rail network since the 1800s. The collection also includes machinery components, tools, and documentation that record the technical evolution of rail operations.
The museum opened in March 1991, though plans for such a collection date back to the 1960s when Zagreb's railway administration first considered establishing one. This delayed opening followed decades during which railway archives and equipment were preserved.
The museum displays uniforms, tickets, models, and personal items from railway operations that show how the work of railroad staff changed over generations. These collections reveal the everyday life of the people who kept Croatia's railways running.
The museum is located south of Gredelj behind Concert Hall Vatroslav Lisinski and is open Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is free, making it easy to include in a walking tour of Zagreb.
The museum preserves steam locomotive 125-052 from 1891, manufactured at MAVAG in Hungary, making it the oldest item in the collection. This surviving machine shows the age and engineering quality of the earliest rail vehicles ever operated in Croatia.
