Lenuzzi's Horseshoe, Park district in Donji Grad, Croatia
Lenuzzi's Horseshoe is a park district in Donji Grad composed of eight interconnected squares and parks arranged in a horseshoe formation. The green spaces feature fountains, monuments, and landscaped gardens that form a unified network of open areas.
Architect Milan Lenuci designed this green space in the late 19th century as part of modernizing Zagreb according to European standards. The project connected the expanding city with green corridors modeled on contemporary European urban planning.
Major cultural institutions like the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the National Theater occupy historic buildings throughout the space. These venues shape how locals and visitors experience the area as a center for arts and intellectual activity.
The central location provides direct access to coffee shops, restaurants, museums, and public transportation throughout the Lower Town district. Pathways between the parks are clearly marked, making it easy to explore all areas.
The arrangement contains more than 40 protected plant species thriving in the gardens and parks. This botanical variety results from careful selection during the original design and continues to be maintained today.
