Kallina House

Kallina House is a three-story Art Nouveau building on Cvjetni trg in Zagreb, featuring a facade covered in colorful ceramic tiles. The ground floor originally housed commercial spaces, while the upper levels served as residential apartments.

The building was completed in 1904 by architect Vjekoslav Bastl for industrialist Josip Kallina. It was built during a period when Art Nouveau design was reshaping Zagreb's architecture and blending residential living with commercial purposes.

The building displays floral patterns and geometric shapes across its ceramic facade, which represent Art Nouveau design from the early 1900s. These decorative elements make the house visually distinct from surrounding structures in the neighborhood.

The building stands at the intersection of Masarykova and Gundulićeva streets in the Donji grad district and is easy to locate. The ceramic tiles on the facade are best viewed from street level to appreciate all the decorative details.

The ceramic tiles on the facade served as both decoration and advertisement for Josip Kallina's ceramics manufacturing business. This blend of residential space and commercial promotion was a clever way to showcase his craft.
