Kockica, Cultural property in Trnje, Croatia
Kockica is a ten-story concrete building in Trnje featuring a minimalist geometric design with raw concrete surfaces throughout. The structure showcases the characteristic features of brutalist architecture with bold lines and massive concrete elements.
The building was constructed between 1963 and 1968 and initially housed the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Croatia. It later transformed into an administrative center serving different government ministries.
The interior contains decorative elements by multiple Croatian artists, including glass works, wall paintings, and textiles that represent the artistic movements of the 1960s.
The building stands in the Trnje district near the Sava River and functions as an administrative center, so visitor access is limited. The best view of its architectural form is available from the street.
The building underwent a comprehensive modernization from 2017 to 2020 that improved its energy efficiency. This renovation preserved its original brutalist character and distinctive concrete forms.
