Saint Francis Monastery and Church

Saint Francis Monastery and Church sits at the western end of the Riva waterfront and blends multiple architectural layers together. The complex features a cloister and several interior spaces that reflect its long development across different periods.

The site rests on early Christian ground connected to the grave of a martyr from an ancient period of persecution. The current structure developed over centuries, with different phases of construction and renovation preserving foundations from much older times.

Inside the church stands an ancient Roman sarcophagus decorated with detailed carvings depicting a biblical scene. This artwork demonstrates the skill of ancient craftspeople and has survived remarkably through the centuries.
