Bory Castle, Castle and art museum in Székesfehérvár, Hungary
Bory Castle is a castle and art museum in Székesfehérvár built by Hungarian sculptor Jenő Bory, featuring seven towers and thirty rooms distributed across multiple levels. The structure extends 30 meters from its lowest dungeon to its highest observation point and blends various architectural styles.
Hungarian sculptor Jenő Bory began constructing the castle in 1923 and continued working on it until 1959 without formal blueprints. He served as both architect and builder, gradually expanding the structure while realizing his artistic vision across the decades.
The castle galleries display hundreds of sculptures, paintings, and mosaics created by Bory, including portraits of his wife and representations of Hungarian historical figures. These collections reflect how one artist chose to express his vision and personal story through his living and working space.
Visitors can explore the castle and its art collections on foot, with the site open year-round from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The rooms are spread across multiple levels, so plan adequate time for a full tour and wear comfortable shoes.
The castle combines Scottish, Romanesque, and Gothic building elements in an unusual blend that reflects its builder's personal artistic understanding. Two symbolic centers shape the interior: the Chapel of Marital Love and the Studio Gallery, showing how Bory merged his life and art.
