Abony, town in Pest County in central Hungary
Abony is a small town in the Cegléd area of Hungary that sits on flat, fertile ground surrounded by fields. It has old buildings in different styles, including a church built in 1785 with a tall tower, a second church, and a small museum with objects from the past.
The first written records of Abony date from 1450, although archaeologists found traces of human settlement from the 7th and 8th centuries. Over the centuries the town changed hands several times, suffered destruction under Ottoman rule in the 1500s, and finally grew into an established community in the 1700s.
The name Abony comes from an old Hungarian word and hints at a religious past when monks may have lived here. The town preserves this connection through its two churches and local stories that still shape how people see this place.
