Ottoman bridge in Szolnok, Ottoman road bridge in Szolnok, Hungary.
The wooden structure stretched roughly 110 meters across the Tisza, linking the two sides of Szolnok together. Its construction used oak timber arranged in a design typical of river crossings from that period.
The structure was built in 1562 during the period of Ottoman rule in the region. It was the first permanent crossing over the Tisza in that area.
The structure shows how builders combined different building traditions in a single work. You can still see traces of how local and Ottoman construction methods came together in its design.
Today only foundation remains are visible, especially when water levels drop. Visitors interested in seeing the traces should pay attention to dry periods, when the remains become clearer.
The foundation became visible again during the drought of 2003, allowing researchers to document it properly for the first time. This discovery gave experts important insights into the original design and building methods used.
