Vidám Park, Former amusement park in Budapest, Hungary.
Vidám Park was an amusement park in the Városliget district of Budapest that housed 34 different rides across more than 6 hectares (15 acres). The complex included four roller coasters, one water ride, and numerous other attractions for all age groups.
The park opened in May 1950 and continued the tradition of earlier entertainment venues like Vurstli and English Park, which had existed on this site since the nineteenth century. After more than six decades of operation, the complex closed permanently in September 2013.
The wooden carousel from the early twentieth century played classic Wurlitzer melodies and drew generations of visitors who saw it as a symbol of capital city entertainment. Families often came specifically to ride the carved horses and hear the mechanical organ, which had become part of the local leisure tradition.
The entrance stood at Állatkerti körút 14-16, just a short walk from Széchenyi fürdő metro station. Opening times varied depending on the season and weather conditions.
The wooden roller coaster with a timber frame from 1926 remained operational until closing and received official recognition as a historical monument. This construction was among the oldest of its kind in Central Europe.
